"Do not be alarmed," the angel said, "Your are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen. He is not here." (Mark 16:6)

As I write this article for the crossing point, my thoughts are on our Easter Service for this year. I find myself asking all sorts of questions that are pertinent to the service: Ho may songs should the congregation sing? How may songs should the choir sing" Can we accomplish everything we want to without having a service that goes beyond our normal time frame? How long should my sermon be? What should my sermon be? How many people will we have in church? Will there be enough chairs to hold everyone? (Wouldn't it be exciting, if there weren't? What a great problem that would be!!) And finally, will we have enough servant workers to accomplish everything that we want to? To be honest with you, the more I think about those questions, the more I long for the days when my main task on Sunday morning was simply to get up and look for the eggs and candy that my mon and dad hid for my brothers and I! In the end, it will most likely all run smooth enough no to warrant having had to even worry about it in the first place. However, I do think it's necessary to ask those questions. If we want to put on a quality Easter Service to honor the Resurrected Christ, it will only come by planning, organizing, communicating, and preparing.

But, those questions are not the most important questions of all to consider. The most important question is this: Who is our Easter Service for? Here is my answer to that.

  1. It is for those believers who confess Christ as their Lord - the members and regular attendees of our church.
  2. This is for those believers who confess Christ as their Lord who will visit our church. There will be Christians who are looking for a church to call their home. Let's help them to see that WHCC is a place where they can find strength and encouragement in their relationship with Christ.
  3. It is for those individuals who don't know Christ Jesus as their Lord who will visit our church. They are not just giving our church a try; they're giving our faith a try. We may not get another opportunity to make a lasting impression on them. Let's do the best we can to show them Christian faith, love, and hope!
  4. It is for Christ Jesus. We will proclaim Him, worship Him, and celebrate Him and His glorious resurrection from the grave.
With that in mind. I want to ask you to do me three favors.
*Bring yourself to church on Easter. The service is for you.
*Bring a visitor to church with you on Easter. The service is for them.
*Bring Christ within you! Remember: It's not about us. It's all about Him!

See you on Easter!!!!

Greg

We all enjoyed a brief summertime in March but hope to go back to spring now.
We are sorry to be saying goodbye to Michael Cho and all his lovely musical accompaniments on the piano for may years, but we whish him well in his new job. He is closer to his home now. All enjoyed the salad luncheon to spend time with him.

The Food pantry was the recipient of about 50 can items and $237.67 from our Souper bowl Sunday. Thanks to the elementary Sunday School class for publicizing this.
Good work, Stephen Esmerelda and all the rest of the class who helped.
If your can't find one of our Crossing Points, just go to www.whcc-disciples.com on your computer and find it there. many thanks to Howard Rice for adding this to our web site. GOD DOES NOT PROMISE A SMOOTH FLIGHT, BUT HE DOES PROMISE A SAFE LANDING

An Easter Prayer
Helen Steiner Rice
God, give us eyes to see
the beauty of the Spring,
And to behold Your majesty
in every living thing -
And may we see in lacy leaves
and every budding flower
The hand that rules the universe
with gentleness and power -
And may this Easter grandeur
that Spring lavishly imparts
Awaken faded flowers of faith
lying dormant in our hearts,
And give us ears to hear, dear God,
the Springtime song of birds
With messages more meaningful
than man's often empty works
Telling harried human beings
who are lost in dark despair -
'Be like us and do not worry
for God has you in His care'.

The Crucifixion

They placed the cross upon His back
Yet, no one seemed to care
The weight across His shoulders
Seemed more than He could bear.

The spikes were driven in His hands
And pounded through His feet
The ones who had convicted Him
Were cheering in the street.

The crown of thorns placed on His
Head
Brought blood upon His brow
The day of prophecy had come
He had to face it now.
The sins of man were laid to rest
He bore a heavy loss

The agony He must have felt
As He hung there on the cross.
The innocent blood of Jesus Christ
Was shed for all to see
The Son of God was crucified
And died for you and me.

Happy Easter

More than Easter bunnies
And chocolate eggs galore
Is the cross of Calvary
The sacrifice of our Lord
For Jesus is the reason
We all can celebrate
And come to Him to freely receive
His love and saving grace

HINTS OF THE MONTH
2 Minute Improvement
Kiss Dry Lips Good-bye

Managing to crack a smile can be difficult when your lips are chapped and sore. Giving then a little lick to add moisture only makes matters worse.
"Saliva quickly evaporates on your lips, drying them out further," says celebrity makeup artist B.J. Gilian. Instead, Gillian has a two-step solution to make chapped lips smooth.

1. Break a vitamin E capsule and apply the liquid to your lips using your fingertips to repair and condition.

2. Dab a warm washcloth in pure petroleum jelly and use the cloth to massage your top and bottom lip in small circular motions, starting slightly beyond the lip line and moving toward the center. The massaging action helps to remove dry flakes, while the petroleum jelly locks in moisture and the heat soothes. (Pack lip balm when you're on the go.)

Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm.

Mathew 5

Salt and Light

13" You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14" You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15" Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16" In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

The Fulfillment of the Law
17" Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law of the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18" I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
19" Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20" For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

My Morning Prayer

Lord please give me courage
If trouble comes my way.
Lord please give me guidance
If I begin to stray.

Lord please give me wisdom
Show me what to do and say.
Lord please walk with me
As I face another day.

HYMN OF THE MONTH

The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross.
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.
