Malachi 3:3 -- "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."...
This verse puzzled some people in a Bible study, and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible study. That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot, and then she thought again about the verse that says, "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered, "Yes," he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy - when I see my image in it."
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire from the trials of life, remember these important truths:
- God's eyes are ever upon you in the midst of the fire, so take heart!
- He is holding onto you as you go through the fire, so trust Him!
- You will come through the fire refined for the better, so be assured!
- These fires provide you for the opportunity to reflect God's image in your life, so embrace the challenge!
Thank you Joyce for sending this to me! See you all this Sunday.

Pew News Hope everyone is getting 2007 started well with good resolutions to keep. Just don't make too many at once. We had a very enjoyable un-decorating party for our Christmas things with all-you-could-eat pizza and apple pie.
Christian Way School is growing well. If you know any preschooler's who need loving care and good experiences in learning, send them in to visit our school.
Hope you have seen our newly replanted garden in front of the Administration building. It was growing beautifully for a few months, but it's having a little hard time now, like many of our gardens, after the big freeze. But watch it, come spring, and you will enjoy seeing it grow and bloom.
Looking ahead we'll be having the famous Stone Soup Sunday on Feb. 4th. If you haven't been to this before be sure to put it on your calendar, and bring your cup of cut-up vegetables to church that day.. You'll be well fed to then go home and watch the Super Bowl later in the afternoon.
And our Souper-bowl Sunday will be coming up on February 18th so gather your donations of cans and dollars to benefit our West Valley Food Pantry. Our Elementary Sunday School class is in charge of the collections this year
See you next month

God's Work
God's presence is all around
His work seen everywhere,
In the many colored flowers
Perfume with such care.

On the highest mountains,
The valleys and the glens,
This voice is loud and clear
Across the windswept fens.

Deep within the forest
Beneath the tallest trees,
He finds a place for blue bells,
To protect them from a breeze

Beside a babbling brook
You can hear the song He sings,
Ever rippling, ever flowing,
Murmuring a thousand things.

God's work here on the land,
is seen in every season
And everything He planned
Was created for a reason.

He gave the earth to man,
A gift from Heaven above,
God's work is never done
As He touches us with Love

HINTS OF THE MONTH
If your clothes dryer feels really hot, but your clothes take forever to dry, the vent may be clogged. A clogged vent traps the excess hot air inside the dryer's drum. But the low circulation of air keeps clothes from getting dry. This is a big problem -- the extra heat can damage fabrics and can start a fire -- but it's nothing you can't fix yourself.
1. Start by checking the vents flap or hood on the outside of the house. Make sure that you can feel a strong flow of air coming out when the dryer is running. If not, try cleaning out the vent with a straightened clothes hanger.
2. If the vent flap is not the problem, check for a kink or sag in the duct and straighten the hose if necessary.
3. If a kinked or sagging duct is not the problem, disconnect the duct from the dryer and look for blockage inside with a flashlight to remove he blockage shake it out or run a wadded cloth through the duct. If the duct is damaged, replace it.

The Temtation of Jesus |
|
| |
1.Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2.After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3.The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
4.Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.' "
5.Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6."If you are the Son of God, "he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written"
T" 'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' "
7.Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' "
8.Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, 9."All this I will give you, "he said, "If you will bow down and worship me."
10.Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.' "
11.Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Salsa Verde Seafood with Yellow Rice The following recipe comes from Diane Stage-Fowler of Saratog Springs, New York. She writes: "I have served this dish for company. It tastes great and looks really pretty. No one believes me when I tell them ho I make it."
Diane's recipe serves four, but it's easy to
double. If you can't find salsa verde, green enchilada sauce is a good subsitute.
• Cook one 8-ounce package of yellow rice mix according to package directions.
• About 10 minutes before the rice is done, pour
2 cups (16 ounces) of store-bought salsa verde into a medium skiliet and heat over medium
heat. Add 1/2 pound shelled and deveined shrimp and 1/2 pound scallops, cook until the seafood
is just opaque, about 5 minutes.
• Spoon the scallops, shrimp and salsa verde
over the yellow rice.

WALK WITH ME
While walking, through this life
in your travels, along life's way
Don't be, so quick to judge
Another's actions, of today
†
You don't know, their motivation
Nor the troubles, they've been through
All you know, is what you see today
They could be, much more worse off than you,"
†
Try walking, in their shoes
Let love and patience, now prevail
Be kind and understanding
Results will tell, the real true tale,
†
Let your light and love, so shine
Let your kindness, be the clue
That God above, in Jesus Christ
Lives and dwells, within you.

HYMN OF THE MONTH |

Love Lifted Me
I was sinking deep in sin, far from the
Peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise
no more,
But the Master of the sea, heard my
despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.
Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me!
All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I'll
cling
In His blessed presence live, ever His
praises sing
Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs.
Souls in danger look above, Jesus
completely saves,
He will lift you by His love, out of the angry
waves.
He's the Master of the sea, billows His will
obey,
He your Savior wants to be, be saved
today.
